“Now you are the body of Christ, and each one of you is a part of it.”
1 Corinthians 12:27
We are not meant to live the Christian life alone. We need each other. Membership in a local church is where we find help from others in our Christian journey. We can do more together than we can alone.
Acts 2 UMC is part of the holy catholic (universal) church, as we confess in the Apostles’ Creed each time we gather for corporate worship. Everyone may attend our worship services, participate in our programs, receive the sacraments of Baptism and Holy Communion, and become members when they take the appropriate vows of church membership. Membership at Acts 2 includes those who have been baptized and those who have professed their faith in Jesus Christ.
Baptized members are those who have received Christian baptism in the local church or another church. Professing members are those baptized members who have been received into membership by their profession of faith or by transfer from other churches.
At Acts 2, we baptize people of any age, including infants and young children. Parents and sponsors of children pledge to nurture the children in such a way that they may be guided one day to accept God’s grace for themselves, to profess their faith openly, and to lead a Christian life. We offer a class for junior high youth each spring in which they are able to make a public profession of faith in Jesus Christ and become a professing member of Acts 2.
For older youth and adults, we offer a membership class called Acts 2 101 several times throughout the year. In addition to discussing the basics of the Christian faith and beliefs and practices unique to the United Methodist Church, we discuss the goals and strategies of Acts 2, meet key members of the Acts 2 staff, and learn about the ministries and programs of the church from church leaders. Participants in the class will meet with Rev. Mark Foster, the founding pastor of Acts 2, and his family to hear first-hand about the vision of Acts 2. At the end of the class, everyone will be given an opportunity to become a member of Acts 2 by the profession of their faith in Jesus Christ, by transfer from another United Methodist Church, or by transfer from another denomination.
Members of Acts 2 not only profess their faith in Jesus Christ, but they also commit to growing and to serving Jesus Christ by praying, actively participating in worship, giving financially to the church, serving others, and being a witness for Jesus Christ in the world.
