Reflecting the Acts of the Apostles, Acts 2:42 Groups are small communities of people committed to offering love, learning, and support through the sharing of God's message.  Acts 2:42 Groups provide an environment for spiritual growth and aim to deepen their members’ relationships with Jesus and one another, serving as a cornerstone to the growing community of the Acts 2 UMC family.

 

Specifically, Acts 2:42 Groups are open communities comprised of eight to twelve members.  Each small group has four positions which are filled by the members: the leader, the apprentice, the nurturer, and the host.  Each small group is different and has its own personality and parameters.  Groups vary in membership composition (i.e., ranges of ages, professions, stages of life), meeting times and places, and study focus. 

 

Although diverse, each small group is comprised of the same four elements: fellowship, study, service, and prayer. Each element serves a different purpose in helping the members deepen their relationship with one another and God.  Fellowship provides the opportunity to connect with each other, which is a foundation for trust. Study allows for a deeper connection and understanding of God and His message.  The service projects chosen and completed by each group serve as a way of showing love to both God and others outside of the group, a dynamic that bonds the group even further.  Prayer as a group keeps the group centered on Christ, offers support during trials, and helps members to see the work of the Holy Spirit within the group.
